How to Crop a Photo to an Exact Ratio

Magic Photo Cropper cuts your photo to a square, an ID-photo ratio, a passport-photo ratio, or a few other common ratios — then lets you pan and zoom until the framing looks right, before saving.

Upload Your Photo

Drag and drop a photo, paste one from your clipboard, or click "Choose File." JPG, PNG, and WEBP are supported, up to 20 MB.

Pick a Ratio and Adjust

Choose 1:1, 3:4 ID photo, passport photo, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16, or the original ratio. Use the position and zoom sliders to frame the shot.

Crop & Download

Click Crop & Download to save the cropped photo in JPG, PNG, or WEBP.

🔒 100% Private — Your photo never leaves your device

Cropping happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded to a server at any point.

🎯 Tips for a Clean Crop

ID and resume photos

Use 3:4 ID Photo for the common Korean 반명함 ratio. Center the face with the Up/Down slider before zooming in, so you don't crop off the top of the head.

Passport photos need more than a ratio

The Passport preset only matches the 3.5×4.5cm shape. Background color, face size, and lighting rules are set by the issuing authority — check their current guidelines separately.

Set an exact pixel size

If the place you're submitting to specifies a pixel size, enter it in "Output width" — the height is calculated automatically to match your chosen ratio.

Zoom before you crop, not after

Cropping always uses full source resolution within the zoomed-in area — there's no quality loss from the crop itself, only from zooming in past your photo's native resolution.

Chain it with other tools

Need the cropped photo under a specific file size, like 300KB for a submission form? Run it through Magic Image Compressor's Target Size mode next.

iPhone photos (HEIC)

Browsers can't read HEIC files directly. Convert to JPG first with Magic File Converter, then crop the JPG here.
