How to Enlarge a Photo with AI
Magic Photo Upscaler enlarges a photo 2x or 4x — an AI model redraws detail for real photos, while a fast non-AI mode keeps text and screenshots exactly the shape they are.
Upload Your Photo
Drag and drop a photo, paste one from your clipboard, or click "Choose File." JPG, PNG, and WEBP are supported, up to 20 MB.
Pick Mode & Scale
AI Photo for real photos, Text & Screenshot for anything with text. Then 2x or 4x, and click Upscale.
Compare & Download
Drag the slider to compare before and after, then save the result as PNG or JPG.
🔒 100% Private — Your photo never leaves your device
The photo is never uploaded. The only network request is the one-time AI model download for AI Photo mode, which your browser then caches.
🎯 Tips for Better Results
Product & blog photos
Use AI Photo mode. 2x is usually enough for a blog post or storefront thumbnail — save 4x for very small source images.
Screenshots & captures
Use Text & Screenshot mode. It never redraws shapes, so small text and UI elements stay sharp and legible instead of being reinterpreted by AI.
YouTube thumbnails
If your source capture is under 1280×720, AI Photo 2x or 4x can bring it up to a usable thumbnail resolution.
File got bigger?
Upscaling increases file size since there are more pixels. Run the result through Magic Image Compressor's Target Size mode if you need it under a specific limit.
First AI run is slower
AI Photo mode downloads the model once per browser (a few MB) — after that it's cached, and later photos process much faster.
iPhone photos (HEIC)
Browsers can't read HEIC files directly. Convert to JPG first with Magic File Converter, then upscale the JPG here.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The photo is never sent to a server. The only thing downloaded over the network is the AI model file itself, once, the first time you use AI mode — after that it's cached by your browser. Your photo stays on your device the entire time.
AI Photo mode uses a trained super-resolution model to redraw detail — skin, hair, texture — and remove compression blur, which works great for photos but can slightly reshape very small text. Text & Screenshot mode is a fast, non-AI enlarge that keeps every shape exactly as-is, so small text and UI elements stay legible. Use AI Photo for photos, Text & Screenshot for screen captures or anything with text in it.
2x doubles width and height (4x the area); 4x quadruples width and height (16x the area). 2x is usually enough for blog posts and product photos. Use 4x for very small source images or when you need a much larger print or thumbnail.
AI Photo mode downloads a small AI model file (a few MB) the first time you use it, then runs the upscale on your device's GPU through your browser. Your browser caches the model, so it's instant on your next visit. Text & Screenshot mode has no model to download and is always fast.
Yes, as long as your phone's browser supports WebGL (nearly all modern phone browsers do). AI Photo mode will simply take a little longer on a phone than on a desktop GPU.
Source photos are capped at 20 MB. Very large source photos are automatically scaled down before upscaling to keep processing time and memory use reasonable on an average device — the tool tells you if this happens.
Yes — no account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on how many photos you upscale.
